National Dairy Month 2024

June is National Dairy Month! A month-long celebration to honor the hard-working dairy farmers and the dairy industry.

How It Started

National Dairy Month first began in 1937 as National Milk Month to promote drinking milk to US consumers. The celebration has evolved over time and the name was changed to National Dairy Month. It's a way to encourage consumers to eat and drink more dairy products. Not only does this support our farmers, but it's also a great time to learn about the nutritional benefits of different dairy products.

Dairy Fun Facts

  1. Milk is the only food that you can survive on alone. It has every nutrient you need!

  2. The world's population consumes over 2.1 billion liters every day.

  3. Dairy cows are social animals. They make friends and bond with some.

  4. A cow turns grass into milk within two to three days. Depending on the breed, a cow can make between 25 to 40 liters of milk per day.

  5. All 50 states in the US have dairy farms.

Health Benefits

Dairy is good for your bones! Calcium is crucial to the growth and strengthening of your bones. Snacking on yogurt, cheese, or a glass of milk can help prevent brittle bones.

Dairy reduces blood pressure. Diets that are rich in potassium help maintain a healthy blood pressure. Dairy products provide potassium and can reduce the risk of heart disease and strokes.

Milk is good for your teeth. Calcium helps protect your teeth against gum disease and keeps your jawbone strong. The protein that you get by drinking milk also helps to neutralize acids in the mouth.

How To Celebrate

  • Have an ice cream party! Invite some friends to enjoy a summer treat loaded with potassium and calcium.

  • Choose milk as your drink of choice! Milk has shown to be superior to water, rich in sodium and potassium.

  • Know a dairy farmer? Pick out some new Little Giant products for their hard-working cows. From buckets, scoops, hanging feeders, and nursing bottles, there are plenty of items to choose from.
